Welcome to SCMUN XIV

Dear Delegates and Advisors,
My name is Armia Asgari, and I have the immense honor of serving as your Secretary-General for SCMUN XIV. Now in its 14th year, SCMUN continues to be a labor of love, built on a commitment to fostering an intellectually stimulating and collaborative conference. None of this would be possible without the delegates and faculty advisors who have made SCMUN what it is, so whether this is your 14th SCMUN or your first, thank you, and welcome!
SCMUN XIV will be held February 27–28, 2027, at the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles. Building on the incredible foundation laid by my predecessor, Sabeeh Mirza, and past Secretariats, our team has dedicated countless hours to making this year's conference the best SCMUN yet.
This year's committees will explore the theme "Inflection Points: Decisions That Define Eras." Our committees span nearly 2,500 years, from the JCC: The Peloponnesian War, 431 BC, where delegates will navigate the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, to The Sunshade Crisis, 2045, which asks delegates to confront the political fallout of a climate future not far from our own. Along the way, the Yihetuan Crisis, 1900, and the Latin American Financial Crisis, 1980, invite delegates to apply historical analysis to challenges that still echo today. If traveling through time isn't for you, we have a variety of traditional (and non-traditional) Model UN committees to suit the interests of all delegates, including three Novice committees designed for those just beginning their Model UN journey.
SCMUN XIV will feature 17 diverse and carefully designed committees. From the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s debate over building data centers in water-stressed regions, to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property (ICPRCP)'s work against the illicit antiquities trade in conflict zones, to the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s efforts to protect host cities ahead of the 2028 Games right here in Los Angeles, we hope our delegates will walk away with a new outlook on and appreciation for international collaboration as we move forward.
On a final note of appreciation, SCMUN would not be possible without our Secretariat and staff, who have volunteered their time to ensure that this conference not only runs as smoothly as possible, but also serves as a fun and valuable educational experience.
